Jesus weeps over Jerusalem. During the week of the Passover, Jesus Christ spoke many prophecies regarding the Jewish Temple, the Destruction of Jerusalem and his own death and resurrection. Jesus laments the tragedies to come. In less than 40 years, Jerusalem would be completely destroyed and the Jews would be scattered to the nations. They would not return to Israel and regain their national identity until May 14, 1948. That means 1878 years would go by before the Jews had a homeland again.
And, Jesus predicted his own glorious return to this same City:
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
