The Holy Women traveled with Jesus and his disciples. They were also disciples of Christ. The women ministered by looking after practical needs of the entourage, so Jesus and the disciples could focus on ministering to the people. Some of the women were wealthy, women of means. The Holy Women included Mary Magdalene, Mary of Cleophas, Mary the mother of Jesus, Joanna and Mary Salome (the mother of James and John.) There may have been others who aren't named in the New Testament. In Art, the Holy Women are primarily depicted at the Crucifixion of Jesus or at the Tomb, but they were also very active during his Ministry. -- Artist is J James Tissot 1833-1902, France
