Revelation 8:10-11 "Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. 11 The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many people died from the water, because it was made bitter." It's hard to imagine how a falling star, or meteor, could poison the waters. Perhaps it plows so deep into the ground that underground reservoirs are poisoned by it? Again, we won't know how this vision is fulfilled until it happens. We live in very strange times. Jesus predicted that these days would happen: he said that the era of deception would be so powerful everyone would be sucked into it. Only those who make a special effort to be close to God would escape the insanity. Every day we're told: listen to this! No, he's a liar, listen to this! People send me videos with "secret information" every day. But there's no peace in the tug of war that is going on: only fear mongering and unrest. Like the meteor in Revelation, all the waters are poisoned. Is there any place where pure, clear water can be found? JESUS promises us peace that rises above the troubles of this world: peace that goes beyond our understanding, because we trust in HIM instead of the frantic affairs going on around us. God is going to sort out the mess, and he's already doing that. It's more important to know Jesus than to figure out the weirdness going on in this world. If you want to know truth, then seek Jesus. Jesus said to him,

With the sound of the 5th Trumpet, St John describes something that is hard to imagine for ancient illustrators. Even 100 years ago it would have been hard for the readers of Revelation to understand it. It wasn't until WWII that fighter planes were used extensively in warfare. John's bizarre descriptions of "armored locusts" are very recognizable as fighter planes. And their weapons are bombs and chemical warfare. St John's description of chemical warfare is what makes this vision especially sinister. How can we doubt that we are living in the end times, when such a mysterious vision is now so clear to us?
